The postpartum doula
A postpartum doula is a compassionate and experienced companion who provides physical, emotional, and practical support to new mothers and their families after childbirth. She is present to offer attentive listening, advice, assistance with household tasks, as well as information on baby care, breastfeeding, and adjusting to the new parenting life. Her role is to help families navigate a smooth transition into parenthood by providing personalized and continuous support during the postnatal period.

The main goal of a postpartum doula is to provide holistic, non-medical, and personalized support to facilitate the parents' transition into their new role and enable them to thrive in their journey as a family.

I have trained with Lori Boggan, the founder of Om Baby & Wellness, and regularly participate in additional education to enhance my knowledge and skills.
Emotional support

A postpartum doula creates a safe and nurturing space for new parents to express their emotions, concerns, and joys related to parenthood. I understand that the postnatal period can be filled with intense physical, hormonal, and emotional changes.
I offer parents a compassionate and non-judgmental listening ear.
I validate their experiences and emotions, allowing them to feel heard, understood, and supported.
I recognize that each parenting experience is unique, and I adapt my approach to meet the specific needs of each parent.
I contribute to building their self-confidence as parents, reducing their stress, and promoting a more positive and fulfilling postpartum experience. The emotional support provided by a postpartum doula helps parents feel supported, understood, and surrounded by love during this significant transition in their lives.
Practical assistance
The postpartum doula also provides practical assistance to parents. I understand that the postnatal period can be exhausting and demanding. Therefore, I am here to alleviate the burden of light household tasks.
As a postpartum doula, I can help with tasks such as meal preparation, tidying up, laundry, and other small household chores. My goal is to create an environment that promotes rest and recovery for parents, allowing them to focus on themselves and their baby while reducing their mental load.
By taking care of these practical tasks, I offer valuable support by freeing up time and energy for parents. This enables mothers to recover after childbirth and allows parents to rest and fully dedicate themselves to their physical and emotional well-being. It also allows parents to establish a close bond with their baby.

Baby care

As a postpartum doula, a crucial part of my role is to provide advice and demonstrations to parents regarding baby care. I am here to accompany and guide them through various tasks such as bathing, diaper changing, and soothing the baby.
Bathing the baby can be a new and sometimes daunting experience for parents. I am here to show them safe bathing techniques and help them gain confidence in handling their baby in the water. I can also answer their questions about baby care products and recommend safe practices.
Diaper changing is an essential daily task for parents. I can provide them with advice on how to change diapers hygienically and comfortably for the baby, ensuring to explain the crucial steps for maintaining cleanliness and avoiding skin irritations on the delicate infant skin.
Soothing the baby is another important aspect of postnatal care. I can share comforting techniques and tips to calm the baby when they are fussy, experiencing colic, or having difficulty falling asleep. I can also help parents recognize signs of the baby's needs and respond to them appropriately.
I strive to help them gain confidence and competence in these essential tasks, ensuring they feel supported and capable in their parenting role.
Breastfeeding support
The postpartum doula plays a crucial role in breastfeeding support. My goal is to provide continuous and personalized support to breastfeeding mothers, helping them establish a harmonious and fulfilling breastfeeding relationship with their baby.
I am here to guide mothers in finding comfortable and effective breastfeeding positions and assist them in finding the one that best suits their baby and themselves.
As a postpartum doula, I am also here to support mothers when they encounter breastfeeding challenges. I am here to listen, reassure, and help them find solutions that are tailored to their situation. I can direct them to additional resources, such as lactation consultants, if needed.
I address common breastfeeding questions and provide accurate, evidence-based information to help mothers make informed decisions.
Breastfeeding support offered by a postpartum doula goes beyond practical aspects. I am here to support mothers emotionally, encourage them in their breastfeeding journey, and help them develop confidence in themselves.
My goal is to assist mothers in having a fulfilling and positive breastfeeding experience while respecting their individual choices and needs.

An introduction to baby massage

As a postpartum doula, I offer an initiation to baby massage, including the Shantala massage technique. This gentle and rhythmic massage promotes relaxation, relieves tension, and strengthens the bond between parent and baby. I guide parents in the appropriate movements of the Shantala massage, providing them with a valuable technique to create moments of relaxation and deep connection with their baby. This enriching practice enhances the attachment bond and promotes the physical and emotional well-being of the infant.

Once parents have learned the massage movements, they can incorporate this practice into their daily routine with their baby. This allows them to create special moments of relaxation and connection with their little one.
An accompaniment to babywearing
As a doula, I also specialize in babywearing support. Babywearing is an ancient and valuable practice that involves using a carrier, such as a wrap or a baby carrier, to keep the baby close while keeping hands free.

My role is to assist parents in learning the art of babywearing by providing guidance, demonstrations, and personalized support. I help them find the type of carrier that best suits their needs and their baby's, taking into account their comfort and safety.

I also educate them on proper babywearing techniques, such as the importance of a physiologically optimal position for the baby and being mindful of safety.
I am here to guide and support them on this beautiful journey of babywearing.

Belly binding

As a postpartum doula, I can offer you a beneficial practice that is an integral part of post-birth support: belly binding.
This traditional method involves gently wrapping the mother's pelvis with a specially designed fabric, such as a "bengkung" in Malay or a rebozo. Pelvic binding provides valuable physical and emotional support for new mothers, contributing to a faster and more harmonious post-birth recovery. The physical contact and devoted attention I can provide while performing pelvic binding enhance the mother's emotional well-being, strengthening the bond with her baby.
Pelvic binding is a valuable resource in my postpartum support, aimed at providing my clients with a gentler and more comprehensive post-birth recovery, while promoting overall well-being.
