The babywearing instructor
A babywearing consultant is an expert who guides parents in learning the art of babywearing. They share their knowledge and experience to help parents choose the appropriate baby carrier, adjust it correctly, and adopt proper positions to ensure the comfort and safety of the baby. The babywearing consultant provides personalized support, encourages the attachment bond between the parent and the child, and promotes the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of the baby. They accompany families in this beautiful journey of babywearing, offering advice, practical demonstrations, and compassionate listening.
I have been trained by Isabelle Sertelon, founder of the National Babywearing Training Center, and the School of Perinatal Professionals.
The physiologically correct positions

When we want to carry our baby in a physiologically correct manner, it is important to pay attention to the positioning of our body.
-
Spinal curl: Ensure that your baby's spine is supported and slightly rounded. This helps to avoid excessive tension on the spine and promotes a natural alignment of the vertebrae. Position C.
-
Knees in abduction and hips set back: Your baby's knees should be positioned slightly higher than the hips, with the hips set back. This position promotes better weight distribution and balanced pressure on the hips and thighs of your baby. Position M.
It is important to ensure that the baby is well supported in the baby carrier, with proper alignment of their head, neck, back, and legs. The airways should remain clear, and the baby should be able to freely move their arms and legs.
Adopting these physiologically correct positions helps to respect the natural curve of the baby's spine, promote proper development of their hips and pelvis, and prevent potential postural issues.
Types of babycarriers
There are different types of baby carriers that respect the baby's physiology. It is important to try out different baby carriers to find the one that is most comfortable for both the wearer and the baby.
-
Wrap Carrier: A wrap carrier is a long piece of fabric, which can be either stretchy or non-stretchy, that allows you to carry your baby in various ways. You can adjust it to create a position that is suitable for your baby, ensuring proper support for their spine and keeping their knees in abduction. It is a versatile option suitable for newborns and older babies.
-
Ring sling: A sling carrier is a fabric strip with a ring that goes over one shoulder. This type of carrier allows for quick installation and is suitable for both newborns and older babies.
-
Mei Tai : Mei Tai is a traditional Asian baby carrier. It consists of a square piece of fabric with straps on each corner, which are tied around the waist and shoulders. Mei Tai allows you to carry your baby on your front, hip, or back while ensuring proper support for their spine and keeping their knees in abduction. This carrier is recommended for babies aged 5 to 6 months and older.
-
Soft-Structured Carrier: Soft-structured carriers are suitable for children aged 5 to 6 months and older. They are made of flexible and adjustable fabrics or mesh and feature straps and a waist belt for the wearer. These carriers should be regularly adjusted to properly fit the baby and changed as your child grows.
These different types of physiologically correct baby carriers offer various options for carrying your baby while respecting their natural posture. It is important to choose a carrier that suits both your baby and yourself, ensuring proper fit and comfort for both. Before using a baby carrier, don't hesitate to seek advice from a professional in babywearing.

The benefits for the baby

Babywearing offers numerous benefits for the development and well-being of the baby. Here are some of these benefits:
-
Safety and Comfort: Being carried in the arms of their parents provides the baby with a sense of security (bodily contact and sensation of movement) and closeness. This reminds them of the comforting environment of the mother's womb, promoting their emotional well-being. There is also a reduction in stress and crying due to the secretion of endorphins and oxytocin.
-
Physical Development: Physiological babywearing allows the baby to adopt natural positions that promote optimal physical and neural development. Being carried aids in digestion and helps reduce colic. Babywearing significantly decreases the risk of plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome).
-
Sensory Stimulation: Babywearing enables the baby to explore the world from a secure position. They can observe and interact with their environment, stimulating their senses, cognitive development, and curiosity.
-
Social Interaction: Babywearing enhances the baby's social interactions with their surroundings. It becomes easier for them to observe facial expressions, hear voices, and participate in conversations, contributing to their social and emotional development.
-
Promotes Breastfeeding: Babywearing facilitates breastfeeding by allowing immediate proximity between the mother and the baby.
The benefits for the caregiver
Babywearing offers numerous benefits for the wearer.
Here are some of these advantages:
-
Closeness and Emotional Bond: Babywearing allows parents to create a close and emotional bond with their baby, strengthening the attachment relationship and promoting a secure and harmonious connection.
-
Hands-Free Convenience: Babywearing provides parents with the opportunity to have their hands free while keeping their baby close. This enables them to accomplish various daily tasks, such as shopping, household chores, or attending to the needs of their other child.
-
Respect for the Wearer's Physiology: Physiological babywearing distributes the baby's weight evenly on the parent's body, reducing fatigue and muscular tension. This enables parents to carry their baby for longer periods of time comfortably. High or back carrying positions also preserve the perineum.
-
Reduced Risk of Postpartum Depression: The release of hormones, endorphins, and oxytocin brings a sense of well-being and feelings of competence.
-
Parental Confidence: Babywearing boosts parents' confidence in their ability to meet their baby's needs. By being physically close to their child, parents can better understand their signals and respond to them proactively.
-
Enhanced Mobility: Babywearing allows parents to move more easily in various environments, such as public transportation, crowded spaces, or uneven terrains, without the need for a bulky stroller.

Individual babywearing workshops
Babywearing workshops are moments of exchange and sharing, filled with gentleness and kindness. They take place at your own pace and that of your baby, with cuddle breaks, breastfeeding, and diaper changes as needed. I come to your home to provide you with a serene and comfortable experience in your own environment.
I adapt the content of the workshop based on your needs, those of your child, your desires, and the equipment you have. Before to the workshop, I will send you a questionnaire to better understand your expectations and prepare the workshop in a personalized manner.
During the workshop, I provide you with various baby carriers so that you can try out different models. I also bring a weighted doll with which I demonstrate different knots and techniques, allowing you to practice even if your baby is not willing to be handled at the moment (during a nap, feeding, etc.) or if your baby hasn't been born yet.
The workshops are open to parents, and siblings are welcome to join as well
